Our people are dying earlier and
more often than anyone else in
this country. So how could our
population be growing so rapidly?

Proposal Writer Ms. Pamela (Paul) Sappier invited Elder Harrison Millea supervisor of the crisis center of
Elsipogtog who spoke to about 15 - 20 people in our community of approximately 1500 concerning more funding
for yet another hot line to be located here. Ms. Paul suggested the niece of TEDCO's CEO Beaver Pauls neice for a
supervisor position. I suggested we had hot lines already and we basically use the resources/people we already
have and encourage volunteering because it seems that when we did not have this money rarely did this
happened. I also quoted our chief who is on record concerning
casino revenues - Mr. Paul said the VLTs provide an
"important source of revenues for meeting many of the critical needs of our people."
"I believe this is a critical need" I told the overwhelming audience.

John Sappier suggested we have a community potlach and clean up and he aIso suggested we keep politics out of
this and Tiffany Perley (MAWIW) agreed along with others and myself included.

But after looking at the above picture and a few days to ponder I realized a few things and would like to share them
with you. I apologize if this offends anyone, this is not a personal attack on anyone, so do not take this personally. I
would just like to point a few things out ;

I would just love to keep politics out of this, yet we cannot discount any factor which contributes to someones life or
death as it were.

Point your mouse over the picture above and read the caption.

I do not believe this is so much politics but more of a governments mandate to divide and conquer still. The chiefs
and councils, especially APC and Union of New Brunswick Indians are only an arm of the government to fulfill this.
As late elder Reena Sappier said in 2002

The most exploited people in the world are Aboriginal women.

"lack of basic health care, limited access to education, loss of control over land, abject poverty, displacement,
human rights violations, and economic and social marginalization,"
are all the result of the "Indian Act".  While the
siblings, friends of relatives of chiefs and ex chiefs rarely feel the brunt of this. One of my observations is that they
are almost always employed. And it is nearly impossible for people who disagree with the system. How naive I was
in the past to think that any of these agencies etc really gave a $#!^ for our land, rights and soverneigty. Heres a few
more facts
In 2004 the Community Well-Being Index developed by DIAND found that there was only one First Nation that
ranked in the 100 best -off Canadian communities, contrasted with 92 First Nations communities that ranked in the
100 that are worst-off

They claim the right to expropriate our land to develop our resources in a way that only benefits them.

It just got itself on the Human Rights Commission at the UN so it can supervise the external international agencies
that are available to receive complaints from the Indigenous Peoples of the world!  This is a classic case of the fox
guarding the henhouse.

A major problem in communities across the country and contributing factor for suicide is nepotism and favoritism.
There is no equality or respect when this happens. Deserving people are overlooked, forgotten and are ridiculed.
How would this make any person feel? The "Indian Act" and anything that comes under it is first of all illegal in
domestic and international law and all our leaders especially the national chief should be arguing this ferverently.
But by the looks of this picture it clearly shows how Indian affairs

Only because of their bloodline? If this is the case then maybe we should start using DNA (because it is
coming!)and see who is truly the well deserving.

We scheduled it for
Sunday June 6 but it looks like rain so heads up on the date.
Sitting are the chiefs sister, ex chief daughter, ex chiefs sister, councilors wife, Tedco's CEO's neice, ex chiefs daughter and the band managers sister.
